Unfortunately the Urban Nature project (as of September 2010) has closed down, visit http://www.staa-allotments.org.uk/ for more information regarding the St Ann's Allotments and for other volunteering opportunities.
Urban Nature is a volunteer project working with St Anns Allotments to create and sustain a dedicated area for a massive diversity of wildlife right in the centre of Nottingham! Don't go thinking of stereotypical, small tidy plots of carrots here, these allotments hold a real community, and our section ranges from homing tiny ferns to massive oak trees and a million things inbetween.
In fact the allotments are possibly the oldest and largest area of Victorian detached town gardens in the world and has recently been listed with a Grade 2* by English Heritage. It is a project where anyone can get involved, and come lend a hand on a Saturday afternoon, to do a bit of lopping, pruning, coppicing, tidying... or perhaps build a bird box or a hibernation area. Ideas are welcome, and we would love to hear from you if you would like to join in or find out a bit more!!
Are you a gardener on the St Ann's Allotments? If so, you can help us out by filling in a wildlife survey! Click here to download the survey form; simply fill it out and email it back to us!
